Based in Utica, New York, milling equipment manufacturer, Munson Machinery, is celebrating 200 years in business.
A. Munson & Company was founded in 1823 by Alfred Munson to make grain milling machines, flour bolters, grinding supplies and waterpower equipment.
Munson was the first company in the U.S. to manufacture French buhr millstones that achieve a finer grinding, like this Munson 4-Column Buhr Mill from 1873.
Munson has persevered through a civil war, two world wars, multiple pandemics and several economic downturns.
The company now makes batch and continuous mixing equipment and blending and size reduction machines for powder and bulk solids, pastes and slurries.
This piece is the predecessor of the company's current rotary batch mixer. In the mid-1800s, it used a wooden vessel and frame.
Over the years, the company has changed and the equipment has been upgraded.
But the company's philosophy has stayed the same, "Our Mills are built upon honor―all we ask is a careful examination of their merits. We leave the decision to you."
