According to two unnamed sources, Samsung has already spent half of the projected $17 billion.

One source said construction cost is responsible for 80% of the increase.

Another source said any delays could raise the cost even more.

Samsung said the factory would create 2,000 jobs and produce advanced chips for 5G, mobile phones and AI.

The plant already broke ground, and one source said Samsung is rushing to finish it by 2024.

Samsung hopes to begin producing chips before a 2026 deadline to acquire investment tax credits on tools for the plant.
