Stellantis to Begin Indefinite Layoff

The indefinite layoff will be “from the bottom up.”

Stellantis announced an indefinite layoff at its Chrysler Sterling stamping plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

The stamping plant employs 2,184 workers, 2,000 of which are hourly employees.

The automaker did not disclose how many employees would be affected.

An emailed statement to Reuters said the action would help “to operate the plant in a more sustainable manner.”

A United Auto Workers Local 1264 letter posted to Facebook said the layoff would begin as early as June 20.

The letter also said the indefinite layoff will be “from the bottom up.”

Supply chain issues continue to trouble Stellantis which also announced an assembly plant in Ontario would be down the week of June 20, citing insufficient parts.
