Electrical components manufacturer Methode Electronics Inc. announced the relocation of its headquarters and principal office presence from Chicago to Southfield, Mich. The company expects the $3.7 million investment near Detroit to target its automotive, commercial vehicle and industrial markets and create at least 90 jobs by 2030.

The Michigan Strategic Fund supported the project through a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant worth $900,000.

“Our move to Southfield is a natural next step in Methode's transformation,” CEO and President Jon DeGaynor said. “Being closer to our customers and the broader Detroit automotive network strengthens our ability to operate strategically, collaborate more effectively and position the company for long-term success."

Prior to the move, Methode had 59 Michigan-based employees. The newly created jobs will include a starting wage of $29.41 per hour plus benefits.

Methode was founded in 1946 by entrepreneur and engineer William J. McGinley in Chicago. The company currently operates in 14 countries and employs more than 6,500 people globally.
