McLaren Partners with Lockheed Martin Skunk Works on Supercars

The automaker wants "futuristic" supercar designs.

Luxury vehicle company McLaren Automotive has announced a collaboration with an unlikely partner: an aerospace company.

McLaren recently revealed that it would be pursuing “futuristic” supercar designs with the help of Lockheed Martin Skunk Works.

Skunk Works is perhaps best known for creating the hypersonic aircraft concept – Darkstar – that was used in the Top Gun: Maverick movie.

It also focuses on disruptive solutions in other areas, including classified projects with national security in mind.

According to a press release, the duo will attempt to transfer Lockheed’s systems over to the world of cars.

McLaren adds that Skunk Works’ “pioneering software sets the parameters for high-speed systems more accurately and swiftly than traditional design methods.”

McLaren’s already-high-performance supercars may get a significant speed boost from the partnership.

That’s because Skunk Works specializes in hypersonic and supersonic air travel.
