Syensqo, a chemical manufacturer based in Belgium, recently broke ground on a new manufacturing expansion project in Havre de Grace, Maryland, which is about 40 miles northeast of Baltimore. The company said the multi-million-dollar investment will add more than 30% capacity and expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint.
The expansion is designed to improve Syensqo's global manufacturing network, and is specifically focused on making advanced materials for the aerospace market. The company makes high-performance structural adhesives and surfacing products for the commercial aerospace, defense, propulsion, space, advanced air mobility and automotive sectors.
Rodrigo Elizondo, president of Syensqo Composite Materials, said the investment will strengthen supply reliability, improve efficiency and help meet growing customer demand for adhesive, bonding and primer materials. He said the move complements Syensqo’s previous expansion in Wrexham, United Kingdom.
Aerospace remains the company’s largest end market and this investment should scale production.
Syensqo has more than 13,000 employees across 30 countries. The company’s products are found in homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, batteries, smart devices and healthcare applications.
