Kennametal on Monday announced a collaboration with measurement technology leader Hexagon to provide machinists with “instant access” to digital tooling data.

The cutting tool and engineered components manufacturer said that joining Hexagon's cloud-based Tool Library would combine Kennametal's tooling expertise with the Swedish company’s Computer-Aided Manufacturing technology.

The Tool Library supports 3D models, smart assemblies and scalable performance for thousands of tools, and machinists would be able to import Kennametal tooling data into Hexagon's WORKNC CAM software.

The integration currently supports solid carbide drills and end mills for WORKNC users; more CAM systems and product lines will be added “in the coming months,” officials said.

"This integration helps manufacturers access our machining solutions more efficiently," Kennametal Chief Technology Officer Carlonda Reilly said in a statement. "By combining our validated tooling data with Hexagon's powerful CAM technology, we're advancing our strategy to enable digitalization of the manufacturing value chain to better serve machine shops worldwide."
