Hansae Mobility USA Manufacturing, a U.S. subsidiary of South Korean automotive components maker Hansae Mobility Co., plans to expand its Michigan operations by moving into a 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Chesterfield Township. The development represents a $93 million investment.
Hansae Mobility specializes in driveline systems and other vehicle components for global automotive companies, including Volkswagen and Stellantis. The new site will compliment its 157,000-square-foot plant in Pontiac.
The Chesterfield Township project will bring the company's final assembly activities and machining processes under one roof, allowing it to insource manufacturing activities currently performed by Korean suppliers. It also looks to retain 171 positions and create 102 jobs.
“Building on nearly a decade of operations in the United States, this investment represents an important next step in our growth,” Hansae Mobility USA Manufacturing President Roy Kim said. “By bringing expanded assembly and machining capabilities together, we will strengthen our ability to serve customers while creating meaningful career opportunities and building a long-term partnership with the region.”
The project will receive a $625,000 Michigan Business Development Program (MBDP) performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Additionally, Michigan Works! provided a workforce development proposal valued at $702,413, with $582,000 estimated from the Going Pro Talent Fund.
