Venezuela Buying More Chinese Military Planes

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he has signed off on spending $82 million to buy a second shipment of Chinese-made K-8 military planes.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he has signed off on spending $82 million to buy a second shipment of Chinese-made K-8 military planes.

Chavez says Venezuela is buying 18 more of the trainer and light attack jets. Venezuela received an initial shipment of six K-8 planes earlier this year.

Under Chavez, the South American oil exporter has boosted trade with China.

Chavez said Sunday that his government is also negotiating with China to buy large amounts of appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines and television sets.
