Redwire's Manufacturing Hub Will Support Microgravity Biotech Research

Redwire has opened its new 30,000-square-foot vertically-integrated research and microgravity payload development facility in Georgetown, Indiana. The facility will serve as a global hub supporting demand as the company continues to expand in space-enabled research, development and manufacturing with a focus on pharmaceutical/biotech innovation.

“The new Georgetown facility serves as the cornerstone of Redwire’s ability to scale, support major programs around the world, and help shape the expanding orbital economy that will drive the future of space development while benefiting millions here on Earth,” said Mike Gold, President of Redwire Space, in a statement. “The breakthroughs emerging from Georgetown will accelerate the development of the technology and capabilities that are enabling NASA to advance human spaceflight, drive life-changing discoveries for leading pharmaceutical and biotech partners, create new innovations in materials from semiconductors to fiber optics, and generally unlock the economic potential for commercial space stations.”

Redwire’s facility features advanced engineering and scientific laboratories as well as its own Payload Operations Control Center—Redwire’s central command post to oversee all science and research operations on the International Space Station (ISS) in real-time. The facility also serves as a key operational site for Space Microgravity Development LLC (SpaceMD), Redwire’s venture company focused on leveraging the microgravity environment to create new innovations in biotech and other fields.

Redwire specializes in microgravity research and development technologies, having flown hundreds of experiments on crewed systems from the Space Shuttle to the ISS. Redwire’s microgravity technology enables biotechnology and pharmaceutical development, as well as innovations in material from fiberoptics to semiconductors. Redwire’s work will demonstrate how activities in space can improve a variety of fields on Earth.
