Rivian Provides First Electric Truck for Consumers

They can only be bought online.

Electric vehicle automaker Rivian has built the first electric pickup truck ready for consumers.

Founder and CEO of Rivian RJ Scaringe announced the R1T pickup came from a plant in Normal, Ill., previously owned by Mitsubishi.

CNN Business reported Rivian earned clearance from the NHTSA, EPA and California Air Resources Board to begin delivering the vehicle to all 50 states.

The trucks can only be bought online, and buyers have seven days or 1,000 miles to return the truck once it has been delivered.

There are no showroom opportunities to test drive the truck, but Rivian said it would hold nationwide events so customers can see it in person.

The R1T is priced at $73,000 and Rivian has already sold the launch edition.

Rivian did not disclose how many trucks are part of the launch edition, but it is taking orders for January deliveries.
