Tulsa, Okla., recently competed to bring a new Tesla Gigafactory to town. In July, the city came in second as Tesla picked Austin, Texas, for its new $1.1 billion facility.
But that doesn't mean Tulsa is done with the auto industry. As a matter of fact, the state is just getting started.
Oklahoma recently launched a new effort to lure the auto industry. It's similar to the state's push that brought in aerospace industry giants like Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
According to The Journal Record, the state has collected 2,700 resumes from engineers and other industry professionals.
The state also claims that Tesla's manufacturing costs would have been up to 35% lower had it set up shop in Tulsa.
The state remains resilient during the economic downturn. While the U.S. GDP declined by 33% last quarter, Oklahoma experienced a 3.4% increase.
