COVID-19 Closes Mississippi Manufacturing Facility

However, the mayor thinks the company is using the pandemic as an excuse.

Refrigerated Solutions Group plans to permanently close its manufacturing facility in New Albany, Miss.

The factory has produced Master-Bilt coolers and freezers used by commercial businesses for more than 80 years. The plant is closing because "the COVID-19 pandemic has caused sudden, dramatic, and unexpected conditions outside of the company’s control."

According to NEMiss.News, New Albany Mayor Tim Kent thinks the company is using the coronavirus as an excuse.

In March, Standex International announced that it was selling Master-Bilt to private equity firm Ten Oaks for $11 million.

The mayor says he tried to make a deal, but the company wouldn’t return his calls.

The business will be folded into the company’s manufacturing operations in Hudson, Wis., by October 31.

The company will maintain a warehouse and distribution facility in Guntown, Miss.
