Supplier Helps Combat Hunger, Food Waste

How a seven-month capital equipment project is helping produce 42M pouches of food annually for those in need.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations states that one-third of all food produced for human consumption (1.43B tons) is lost or wasted annually.

Simultaneously, 795 million people around the world do not have enough to eat.

Established in 2015, Nutripeople, a Murcia, Spain-based food processor collects surplus fruit and vegetables, which it turns into a nutritionally-enriched, 100 percent natural food product. Nutripeople targets organizations like UNICEF and food banks. A percentage of each sale goes directly to social projects for feeding those in need.

In order to turn the surplus into finished food, Nutripeople commissioned HRS Heat Exchangers to install a cost-effective production line. Located in Phoenix and Atlanta, but drawing from a global footprint, HRS delivered a mixing line, a homogenizer and pasteurization equipment.

The installation process took seven months, but Nutripeople can now produce up to 42 million pouches of product annually.
