Bursting Toilets Already Recalled Twice

Pressure problem can lift the tank lid and even shatter the tank.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision, a recall has been issued after pressure-assisted flushing systems from Flushmate have burst.

One person suffered a minor injury, but the biggest problem seems to be that the system can explode at or near the vessel weld seam, releasing stored pressure. This pressure can lift the tank lid and even shatter the tank.

About 453,000 units of the Flushmate III Pressure-Assist Flushing System have been sold in the U.S. and it has even been recalled before. Twice.

Manufactured by New Hudson, MI-based Flushmate, a division of Sloan Valve Company, the Series 503 in question was recalled in January 2014 and June 2012. Consumers purchased the potential porcelain problems a Home Depot and Lowe's stores from 2009 through 2011 - so you'll have to think back to when you last upgraded your throne.

Actually, with the previous two recalls, you may want to look into it if you bought any of these toilets since 1997:
