Nissan To Build New Plant In Thailand

Nissan Motor Co. is considering an investment of some tens of billions of yen to build a new plant in Thailand, as part of its efforts to beef up production capacity in the Southeast Asian country, people familiar with the matter said Wednesday. The plant is expected to initially produce around 100,000 units a year.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Nissan Motor Co. is considering an investment of some tens of billions of yen to build a new plant in Thailand, as part of its efforts to beef up production capacity in the Southeast Asian country, people familiar with the matter said Wednesday.

The plant, which will be built near an existing factory and manufacture vehicles including pickup trucks, is expected to initially produce around 100,000 units a year. The automaker plans to increase the annual production to 200,000 units in the future, they said.
