BERLIN (AP) -- China signed an agreement Tuesday to buy 88 new Airbus aircraft in the A320 family, the European plane maker said.
Airbus CEO Tom Enders signed the agreement with the China Aviation Supplies Holding Company on the sidelines of a visit to Berlin by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
As part of the general terms agreement, China's ICBC Financial Leasing Co. Ltd. signed a purchase agreement for 42 out of the total 88 aircraft, Airbus said. The single-aisle A320 family is made up of the A318, A319, A320 and A321.
Spokesman Stefan Schaffrath said it was up to CAS to decide what to do with the other 46 planes.
Further terms and details of the agreement were not released.
At last week's Paris Air Show, Airbus claimed more than $72 billion worth of orders and commitments, including an agreement with AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes on an $18.5 billion order for 200 of Airbus' A320neo. The new plane was the star of the aviation industry's premier annual event.
