Nordson Buys Verbruggen

WESTLAKE, Ohio (AP) -- Nordson Corp. said Monday it agree to buy Belgium's Constructiewerkhuizen G. Verbruggen NV, which makes equipment for the flexible-packaging industry.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Nordson, which makes equipment to apply adhesives and other materials to consumer and industrial products, said it expected the deal to close within several days and to have no effect on its earnings in the first full year.

Verbruggen makes flat dies and coextrusion equipment used in the manufacturing of bags, wraps, pouches and other flexible packaging.

Annual sales for the current fiscal year are expected to be about 8 million euros ($11.4 million) for the company, which has about 40 employees, according to Nordson.

Shares of Nordson rose 27 cents to close at $51.61 in the regular session before the acquisition was announced. After hours, the stock lost a penny.
