GENEVA (AP) -- Cult Italian supercar maker Pagani has launched an all-new replacement for its ultra-high end Zonda -- and is bringing it to millionaires in the United States.
Pagani's new racer is the Huayra (WHY-ra), named after an Andean wind god. The 12-cylinder, 700 horsepower monster has a body made entirely of carbon fiber and will cost a cool million euros, or around $1.4 million after tax.
It displayed it Wednesday at the Geneva Auto Show, the same stage it chose 12 years ago to launch the Zonda.
It will be the first Pagani street legal in the United States, key to opening up the important California market for supercars of this caliber.
There's already a waiting list of 50 people for the car, yet Pagani only plans to build 25 this year and another 40 next year. Demand is strongest in the United States, China and Japan.
The Zonda will be retired after the 120th custom model is completed at the plant in Modena, Italy later this year. If you want to see one of these ultra-rare automobiles, head to Hong Kong. That's been the Zonda's most successful market, with 20 of them sold to date in the city-state alone.
