Lego's 2010 Profits Grow On Strong Sales

Denmark's privately-held toy maker says 2010 net profits rose more than 65 percent from a year earlier, boosted by a global toy market recovery and vigorous sales growth.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Denmark's privately-held toy maker Lego says its net profits in 2010 rose more than 65 percent from a year earlier, boosted by a global toy market recovery and vigorous sales growth in the United States, Russia and eastern Europe.

Thursday's annual report showed a net profit of 3.68 billion kroner ($1.24 million), a steep climb from 2009 when it posted 2.22 billion kroner.

Sales, mainly of Lego's popular plastic building blocks, rose 37.3 percent to 16 billion kroner, from 11.7 billion the year before.

Classic product lines like Lego City, Lego Star Wars and Lego Duplo generated the largest sales but the group says all product lines sold more than expected.
