SHANGHAI (AP) -- Shanghai General Motors Co., a joint venture between General Motors Co. and Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp., is recalling nearly 233,000 vehicles in China to fix faulty fuel lines that could cause engine failures or fires.
China's General Administration of Quality Inspection and Quarantine, which oversees product quality, said in a notice issued Monday that the recall involves 133,074 2-liter and 2.4-liter Regal sedans made between Sept. 18, 2008 and Oct. 14, 2010 and 99,857 2.4-liter LaCrosse sedans made from April 20, 2009 to Oct. 14, 2010.
The notice says the faulty fuel pipes can break under extreme conditions, causing the engines to malfunction and that resulting oil leaks could also cause fires.
