Spyker: Saab Car Sales Rise In Q4

Owner of the Saab car brand says that fourth quarter sales rose, having doubled from 5,346 in the same period a year ago to 11,404.

AMSTERDAM (AP) -- Spyker Cars NV, owner of the Saab car brand, says in an update on its business that fourth quarter sales rose.

Cars sold have doubled from 5,346 in the same period a year ago to 11,404, the company said Thursday.

Spyker is due to release fourth-quarter earnings on March 25, after a euro39.9 million loss in the third quarter, when it sold 7,430 cars.

Saab has said it plans to sell 80,000 cars this year and return to profitability.

The company had substantial debt and a negative net worth of euro169 million at the end of the third quarter.

In January 2010, tiny Spyker took out loans and bought the ailing Saab from General Motors for $74 million in cash.

GM holds preference shares with a face value of $329 million, if Saab does turn profitable.
