Venezuela Considers Seizing Pfizer Plant

Government may take control of a shuttered medicine plant that belongs to Pfizer if an agreement to get the factory operating again cannot be reached.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's government may seize control of a shuttered medicine plant that belongs to Pfizer Inc.

Commerce Minister Eduardo Saman says the government could takeover the plant if an agreement to get the factory operating again cannot be reached. Health Minister Carlos Rotondaro plans to meet with representatives of the pharmaceutical giant this week.

The plant located in the city of Valencia has been closed since May.

Telephone calls to Pfizer's offices in Venezuela went unanswered on Tuesday after Saman raised the possibility of a government takeover.
