ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- 3M Co., which makes everything from Post-It notes to Scotch tape, said Monday it will buy Financiere Burgienne, which makes license plates in France under the Faab and Fabricauto brands.

3M said the deal expands its vehicle registration operations in France, which already consist of providing reflective sheeting for vehicles. Faab and Fabricauto operate 20,000 outlets in France.

It also comes at a time when vehicles in France are set to receive new license plates under a new car registration program effective Jan. 1, 3M said.

Financiere Burgienne employs 210 people at its Bourg-en-Bresse and Macon sites, 3M said.
