Brazilian State Halts Toyota Corolla Sales

Due to reported risks of sudden acceleration, a Brazilian state says it has suspended the sale of Toyota Corollas manufactured by the company’s Brazilian subsidiary.

SAO PAULO (AP) -- A Brazilian state says it has suspended the sale of Toyota Corollas due to the risk of sudden acceleration.

A statement by the consumer protection agency of Minas Gerais state says the suspension began Thursday. It says the owners of nine Corollas manufactured by the company's Brazilian subsidiary reported sudden acceleration problems.

The statement says Toyota do Brasil Ltda attributes the problem to loose floor mats that interfere with the pedal. The suspension will be in force until the company changes the mat on all the Corollas circulating in the state.

Toyota says it is preparing a statement on the suspension.
