February UK Vehicle Output Falls 60 Percent

Motor vehicle production fell 60 percent in Britain in February, with the commercial vehicle sector down nearly 72 percent, said the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

LONDON (AP) -- Motor vehicle production fell 60 percent in Britain in February, with the commercial vehicle sector down nearly 72 percent, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said Friday.

Honda began a four-month halt of all production in Britain in February, and other manufacturers have reduced hours or laid off workers.

The report came a day after the group said it was canceling the 2010 British International Motor Show because manufacturers were unwilling to commit to attend due to the dismal economy.
