Canada Warns Of Economic-Security Border Problems

Industry Minister Jim Prentice says businesses in both countries are facing longer delays, more fees, higher inspection rates and more layers of security.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Industry Minister Jim Prentice says delays at the Canada-U.S. border have created a two-headed monster that's not serving security or prosperity.

Prentice was in Washington speaking to a conference also addressed by President George W. Bush.

He says businesses in both countries are facing longer delays, more fees, higher inspection rates and more layers of security.

Prentice says critical crossings need attention, including the Ambassador Bridge that joins Windsor, Ont., to Detroit.

Prentice also says Canada will do more to make the Alberta oilsands more environmentally friendly.
