FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Mindful of demand for inexpensive cars in South America, Renault SA plans to build a new small car in Brazil in a push to widen its market share on the continent.
Speaking to reporters before two days of press previews at the 62nd International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn said Monday the new Sandero would be built at its plant in Curitiba, Brazil, for export across South America, depending on how well it sells.
He said the model would go on sale in Brazil and Argentina by December and likely would be sold in some European countries by next year.
Ghosn unveiled the production plans as part of his presentation to reporters that also included a look at new versions of the company's Clio and Kangoo lines.
