Tire Maker Opens Japanese Research Center

Marks Continental AG's first full-scale engineering center in Asia.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — German tire maker and auto supplier Continental AG said Wednesday it opened a new engineering center in Yokohama, Japan.
 
The center will become a center for research and development in Japan, the company said in a statement. For Continental's automotive systems unit, it is the first full-scale engineering center in Asia.
 
The Engineering Center incorporates Continental Automotive Systems' engineers and testing equipment from Yokohama, Chiba, Hamamatsu and Hiroshima. It will be part of Continental Automotive Corp., the joint venture between Continental AG and Nisshinbo Industries Inc.
