Intel is currently shutting down its U.S. transponder manufacturing location, purchased five years ago as LightLogic, in favor of foreign contract manufacturers. The plant should be completely shut down by Q4 of 2006.

Prior to LightLogic’s acquisition by Intel, the company focused on designing and manufacturing high-speed network transponders.

Intel CEO Paul Otellini announced a corporate-wide restructuring during a recent shareholder conference.
