NAMBÉ PUEBLO, N.M. — Discovery 2 Scale (D2S), an advanced materials company founded by a longtime Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist, yesterday announced that it will establish its headquarters at Nambé Pueblo in New Mexico.
The company is building a platform that brings AI and robotics to material manufacturing. Applications range from developing lighter military armor to creating radiation-resistant materials for fusion energy.
The facility is expected to create more than 80 jobs for scientists, technicians and other highly skilled workers.
“Discovering a new material is not the hard part anymore — the hard part is proving it works and figuring out how to make it at scale,” said Dr. Saryu Fensin, founder and CEO of Discovery 2 Scale. “That is the gap we built D2S to close — we are putting AI, robotics, manufacturing and testing together under one roof because discovery alone doesn’t put a material on an aircraft, in a ship or into a manufacturing line.”
With $500,000 in Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) funding from Economic Development New Mexico, Discovery 2 Scale will lease and improve an approximately 6,500-square-foot laboratory and office space at Nambé Pueblo.
“New Mexico’s national labs play a critical role in both national security and the development of advanced manufacturing technologies,” said Senator Martin Heinrich. “I’m proud to support Discovery 2 Scale and its effort to commercialize technology advancements right here in New Mexico.”
The state hopes that, by establishing the company’s headquarters and laboratory in New Mexico, it will bring more federally funded work into the state’s private sector while expanding its advanced manufacturing capabilities.
