Wind Turbine Maker to Close Three Factories

The company is going to "adjust" its manufacturing footprint.

According to European wind turbine manufacturer Vestas, it has installed more wind power globally than anyone else.

The company designs, manufactures, installs and services wind turbines in 85 countries.

But the company has recently announced plans to “adjust” its manufacturing footprint, and says it will cease production at three European plants.

Vestas says its objective is “to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and improve wind energy’s competitiveness.”

The closures are said to help support the integration of Vestas’ onshore and offshore wind business.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Vestas plans to “dominate” the offshore wind market.

It recently took control of the offshore joint venture it held with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and also launched a giant 15 megawatt (MW) turbine.

Analysts said the new turbine is set to “leapfrog” Vestas’ offshore competitors, and features the capacity to power 20,000 households per year.
