On July 16th, a tragic accident claimed the life of a worker at the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works facility in Michigan.
50-year-old Khaled Saleh Nasser, an employee of Cleveland-Cliffs subsidiary AK Steel, was pronounced dead after falling from an elevated catwalk.
According to the Detroit News, U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mi), has penned a letter to OSHA calling for a probe.
Dingell is reportedly urging a “full and thorough investigation” into the plant’s safety standards.
She says Nasser’s death highlights "credible fears and concerns that more must be done to protect these workers."
As reported by the Detroit Free Press, a spokeswoman for Cleveland-Cliffs said Nasser was conducting maintenance at the time of the fall.
Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn employs 1,325 workers and serves markets including automotive and HVAC.
