SpaceX Warned About Breaking Laws in Texas

Actions could lead to arrest and prosecution.

A district attorney issued a warning to SpaceX regarding the company’s activities in South Texas.

The warning stated SpaceX could violate state laws by shutting down public beaches and using unlicensed security guards to clear roads.

SpaceX has been using large amounts of land near Boca Chica Beach in Cameron County for building and testing.

CEO Elon Musk believes the rocket prototypes undergoing the tests will eventually take the first humans to Mars.

CNN Business acquired a letter sent by the district attorney that said such actions could make the company and employees "subject to arrest and prosecution."

The warning follows littered shrapnel found on local beaches and a series of road closures and traffic jams.

SpaceX shut down beaches for about 385 hours throughout the first six months of 2021 despite only being allowed 300 hours per year.

The letter requested SpaceX respond with legal justification by June 14. It is not clear if the company responded.
