Samsung Considers 4 Sites for $17B Plant

The new chip plant is estimated to create 1,800 jobs.

Samsung Electronics has plans for a $17 billion chip plant in the United States.

The operation will serve as a contract manufacturing site, perhaps for existing customers like Tesla, Nvidia and Qualcomm.

According to Reuters, the Korean company has four different sites it is considering for the operation.

Two are in Arizona, one is in New York and another is in Austin, Texas, which is a city where Samsung already operates a chip plant.

Documents cited by Reuters said the city of Austin and Travis county are combining to offer Samsung tax abatements of $1.48 billion over 20 years.

The other sites are also reportedly offering “significant grants and/or refundable tax credits.”

The new chip plant is estimated to create 1,800 jobs.
