Mercedes-Benz Sends Luxury Car Design Out to Sea

Mercedes Benz has followed in the footsteps of luxury auto competitors BMW, Bugatti and Aston Martin by taking their design chops seaward.

The cool factor here is pretty overwhelming. Meet the Arrow460-Granturismo, a 14 meter yacht that can accommodate 10 people. The luxury sea vehicle is powered by a 960 horsepower engine and can reportedly reach speeds of 40 knots which, for the layperson (land person?) is 46 miles per hour.

Gizmag is calling the Arrow460-Granturismo "46 feet of floating excess," and though there’s a negative connotation in that word, it’s really the only one appropriate. Fine grain eucalyptus wood floors, a wine cellar and a luxury bathroom and dressing room are just the tip of the iceberg, and no expense was spared outside either. The yacht has classic automobile proportions that bring the hallmark Mercedes design idiom to the water in a highly emotional and dynamic form, says the automaker. A crossover design combines the advantages of an open boat with those of a hull cabin cruiser, resulting in a boat that is equally suitable for day trips and overnight stays.

Finding the price of this has proved impossible, but it’s not like I really need to know. I’ll probably just buy it anyway. Rumor is, the base model kicks off at $1.7 million.
