Siemens recently unveiled their Scalance MUM856-1, which they state is the world's first industrial 5G router. The device connects local industrial applications to public 5G, 4G (LTE), and 3G (UMTS) mobile wireless networks. Applications can include remotely monitoring plants, machines, control elements, and other industrial devices, as well as support for "future-oriented" applications such as mobile robots, autonomous vehicles and augmented reality platforms. Additional features include an IP65 housing, bandwidths of up to 1,000 Mbps for the downlink and up to 500 Mbps for the uplink. An integrated firewall is also included.
