The primary reason for executing mergers, according to a recent survey commissioned by enterprise software supplier SAP, is to gain market share by having a broader selection of products to offer customers.
Thus while perpetual mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are becoming a way of life for growth companies, many companies are discovering that those newly acquired products can be difficult to sell without an IT infrastructure that supports customer-friendly business processes.
With the frenetic pace of global M&A showing no sign of abating — more than 50 percent of all manufacturing companies have been involved in multiple mergers and acquisitions within the past five years, according to the survey — nearly every CIO today must at some point grapple with the enormous challenges of integrating acquired companies.
