Winning designs: Design contest proves CAD software accelerates the innovation process If you asked Benjamin Mahan about the value of CAD software, he might respond with a line from a credit card commercial: Priceless. Mahan, a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves, used the Pro/ENGINEER CAD package from PTC to design a special shield that is protecting the faces—and in some cases literally saving the lives—of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Simulation cycles: Dassault Systèmes to acquire Engineous Software; partners with Intercim for A&D Dassault Systèmes will buy Engineous Software—a specialist in process automation, integration and optimization—to extend Dassault's SIMULIA simulation life-cycle management solutions on the Dassault V6 IP collaboration platform. Designs on DEK: Imaging specialist extends PTC solutions into project collaboration DEK Printing Machines (DEK) is expanding its deployment of the PTC Product Development System (PDS) to include Windchill for content and process management. With existing use of PTC Pro/ENGINEER parametric CAD/CAM/CAE software for product design, Windchill will enhance internal project collaboration within six global sites, and external project collaboration with DEK suppliers and partners. Relevant ranking: CAM software market leaders named by CIMdata The NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment report offered by Ann Arbor, Mich.-based CIMdata names the worldwide computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software market leaders for 2007, and projected those expected to be market leaders in 2008.
