What I Learned: Engineering (beyond PD) in Second Life

August 5, 2008

What I learned the other day extended
my thinking on Product Development in Second Life posted in a
previous
blog entry
. The extension came after reading a post in
Siemens PLM’s blog title Engineering in Second Life
. And with
all due credit to Siemens, there post came out first.

Some Key Points in the PD Post
Some of the main points I made in my post are around the community
to develop a new product, and the medium in which it is
developed:

  • Design is Visual
  • New Product Development is Social
  • Customer Interaction is Critical

Engineering beyond Product Development
What
the Siemens post does is to take the conversation directly to
Engineering, showing things like computer aided analysis. It looks
like there was a demo in Second Life as well.

The thing you may find the most valuable, in addition to his link
to his other posts, is a list of links from competitors and other
industry sources that can further your views on this. I have some
reading to do, let me know what you think when you get through with
it.

So those are some short thoughts on what I learned this week. What
does it look like in your life? Your second life?
