Share Your Opinion: Engineering Software Market - 2010 and Beyond
I am conducting some research on
… the future of the engineering software
market, and looking for your input. The research will be
published by my company, Tech-Clarity, and made available through
this blog when it is complete. I will also be presenting this as a
part of a team at COFES next month, which is shaping
up to be a very good event as usual. Please share your insight,
experience, and knowledge with the rest of us as we try to
understand the dynamics of the engineering
software market through the global economic downturn and into the
recovery.
We are looking for perspectives from manufacturers, but also from
vendors and consultants. All are encouraged to
contribute.
Overview
The goal for the research is better understand industry views
on how the software market for PLM, CAD, CAE, and other engineering
software solutions will react to the down economy. We are not
looking for the opinion of economists, but from those of us that
are involved with the software in our daily lives - those that
spend their time using, selling, implementing, or in some other way
working with engineering solutions. We are also looking to uncover
what opportunities and threats the global downturn has
generated for you and your company. Don’t worry, we won’t
share your name or your company name (unless you say it’s OK).
Share Your Thoughts
To participate, please share your views with me by:
- Posting a reply to this blog
- Contacting me directly (my contact information is on the
About Us page of
the Tech-Clarity website) - Taking a short (5 minute)
survey on Survey Monkey
So that is what I am looking into right now, I look forward to
hearing what you think! And more importantly, I look forward to
sharing the results with you!

Hi Jim, I have gotten many information from your Blog. Thanks! I
have worked as a CAD/CAE software developer in China for about five
years after graduation. Now I am preparing to convert my work to
PLM area. There are much space for PLM in China. So PLM will still
play a important role in manufacturing in the next couple of
years.Thanks!

Oleg, Thank you for your message. This survey is really about the
impact of the global economic downturn on the engineering software
industry. It is a little different than my usual focus area because
I typically don't research the market itself, but how manufacturers
can leverage technology for enhanced profitability. I am preparing
to present this at COFES in April to spark discussion on
opportunities and threats facing the engineering software industry
itself, along with Brad Holtz and Peter Marks. I will follow your
work on PLM Twine / Thinktank on cloud computing, which fits into
my primary themes. Thanks for stopping by, Jim

Hi Jim, The first answer is my PLM Dream Technologies for 2009 on
plmtwine.com In addition, I see cloud technologies very promising
for engineering space. I'm blogging about cloud during this week on
my blog, so welcome to join discussion there. Looking forward to
see you on COFES next month. Regards, Oleg www.plmtwine.com
