Mapping the low-carbon economy
We all hope to see growth from a low-carbon economy, but it can be hard to pinpoint when and where this will happen. Now a group called the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is mapping where it sees jobs from growing industries like wind and solar materializing.
Among the regions for which it has created a green economy map is Indiana, which has been so hard hit by the depressed auto and recreational vehicle industries. It’s newest green map pinpoints green jobs growth in the Los Angeles area. The maps include information on specific companies involved in the low-carbon economy. Additionally, the EDF collaborated with Duke University on a study of the outlook for green collar jobs in the U.S.
Whether such forecasts will hold true, only time will tell, but these sort of visual projections of green collar job growth are worth taking a look at for manufacturing enterprises looking to transform themselves around the promise of a low-carbon economy.
