Unilever, the world's second largest producer of food and cleaning supplies, plans to invest around 100 million euro into the construction of a multi-purpose production facility in Tula region, which will unite several food production units with a logistics center.

Unilever's president for Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, Sanjiv Kakkar, and Tula Governor Vyacheslav Dudka signed the necessary contract on October 10, the company said.

The contract foresees Unilever investing around 100 million euro into the facility's construction by 2014. The plant will produce ice cream, condiments, sauces and packaged teas. In addition, the facility will feature a freezer storage and logistics center. Upon completion of construction, the complex's total area will come to over 60,000 square meters. Around 1,000 new jobs are expected to arise out of the project.

Unilever said that Tula-based and other Russian agriculture enterprises would supply the facility's materials for production.

Unilever produces and sells food, cleaning and hygiene products throughout the world. The company owns the following brands: Rama, Calve, Knorr, Lipton, Becel, Rexona, Axe, Sunsilk, Domestos, Cif and Dove.

Unilever's total investment in Russian comes to over $900 million.
