DHL INCREASES FREQUENCY OF FLIGHTS TO BOOST ASIA NETWORK

KUALA LUMPUR - Express and logistics company DHL has increased the frequency of its dedicated flights from Hong Kong to Nagoya, Taipei, Seoul and Singapore to serve the needs of growing intra-Asia trade.

The flights to these cities have been increased to six times per week, representing a 20 per cent increase in capacity for each cities, the company said in a statement Thursday.

JAL TO FLY CARGO ROUTE BETWEEN NAGOYA, CHICAGO

TOKYO - Japan Airlines Corp. (TSE:9205) in December will begin flying an air cargo route from Central Japan International Airport near Nagoya to the U.S. city of Chicago.

The planes will stop at Narita before proceeding overseas, but the cargo will remain on board, allaying clients' concerns that goods will become damaged or misplaced.

KYRGYZSTAN AIRPORT CHANGES WORK SCHEME DUE TO CIS, EURASEC

BISHKEK - The Kyrgyz international airport Manas will change its working schedule due to CIS and EurAsEC leaders arrival to Bishkek, press service of the airport reported.

On October 9 the airport will be closed from 13:00 till 24:00, on October 10 - from 11:00 till 24:00. The airport will work in regular mode during night time on these days and will fully resume a regular 24/7 working hours on October 11, the press service added.

US REACHES OPEN-SKIES ACCORD WITH VIETNAM

HANOI - The Unites States and Vietnam have agreed to liberalise their bilateral civil aviation relations through an Open Skies arrangement for all-cargo services.

The agreement was initiated on October 7, after two days of negotiations in Hanoi between a Vietnamese delegation of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, and a US delegation of the US State Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs.

QANTAS COST CUTTING RISKS UNDERMINING SAFETY, REPUTATION: AMWU

SYDNEY - Qantas (ASX:QNA) maintenance workers will hold a mass meeting in Sydney today to discuss outsourcing and offshoring concerns, following a spate of recent safety incidents.

A recent survey of Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) members found 80 per cent of Qantas maintenance workers did not believe contracting work out had improved productivity or efficiency.

INDONESIA'S DEFENSE MINISTRY URGES APPROVAL TO BUY 3 JETS

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono has urged the House's Commission I and Budgetary Commission to immediately approve the government's purchase of another three Russian-made Shukoi jet fighters for the Indonesian Air Force.

"We have asked the House's Commission I and budgetary Commission to erase the star mark for the purchase of three Sukhoi jet fighters, so that the $360US million could be disbursed for the purchase," the minister said on Wednesday.

VIETNAM SLAPS $7US.65 MLN FINE ON MSG MAKER VEDAN

HANOI - Vietnam's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen made an official decision yesterday to fine monosodium glutamate (MSG) maker Vedan VND127.53 billion ($7US.65 million) after the company violated multiple environmental protection laws.

This fine includes VND267.5 million for Vedan's 12 violations of environmental protection laws, such as the discharge of waste water at 5-10 times the permitted volume, insufficient documentation, and poor management of toxic waste. The remainder of the fine is due to unpaid annual environmental protection fees.
