ITU Telecom Africa -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) will showcase its leadership in the network evolution to mass broadband and feature the full breadth of its end-to-end solutions to support fixed and wireless broadband multimedia services at the upcoming ITU Telecom Africa 2008, taking place in Cairo, Egypt, from May 12^th to 15^th.

As service providers gather for the major networking event for information and communication technology (ICT) players across the African region, visitors to the Alcatel-Lucent booth (booth C95 in Hall 2) will be able to view demonstrations of innovative solutions, software and services developed to enrich the broadband end-user experience and to help transform telecommunications.

Alcatel-Lucent Press Conference

Alcatel-Lucent is hosting a press conference at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13 at the Media Center in the Cairo International Conference Center. The press conference will cover Alcatel-Lucent's "Broadband for All" program, and will highlight primary research conducted on end-users' broadband connectivity in Egypt and Kenya.

During the conference, Vincenzo Nesci, President of Alcatel-Lucent activities in Africa and the Middle East will discuss Alcatel-Lucent's strategy in the emerging African region, while Valerie Faudon, Vice-President of Marketing Programs at Alcatel-Lucent will focus on how Alcatel-Lucent is helping to overcome difficulties facing the universal access to information through its digital inclusion initiatives in Africa and across the globe.

Keynote and Forum Panel participation Moreover, Alcatel-Lucent will participate in numerous keynote sessions and panels organised by the ITU at the forum. On the Monday, 12 May 2008, Vincenzo Nesci, President Alcatel-Lucent for Africa and the Middle East, will give a speech during the plenary session on "Africa's market: Challenges and Opportunities", whereas Souheil Marine, Alcatel-Lucent Digital Bridge Manager, will talk on "the Convergence and NGNs" in the technology session of the same day.

Collaboration with Intel on WiMAX wireless broadband Broadband services are an important component in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and have been identified as essential for social and economic Development.

Alcatel-Lucent and Intel will discuss the issues surrounding broadband access at the "Power Lunch" hosted by ITU under the WiMAX theme which will take place on Monday, May 12.
