The Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) credential is offered by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Individuals who obtain the CPSM distinction will have an advanced-level of broad-based skills to make better decisions regarding their organization's supply network, including how to take full advantage of opportunities around the world."Creating the CPSM is a critical component in enabling ISM to fulfill its strategic mission of leading supply management,” says Karen Fedele, C.P.M., professional credentials committee, chair elect. "For the supply management professional, achieving the CPSM designation demonstrates mastery of all aspects of supply management, versus proficiency in a single discipline, as well as a commitment to continued professional development and excellence.”
ISM defines supply management as the identification, acquisition, access, positioning, and management of resources and related capabilities the organization needs or potentially needs in the attainment of its strategic objectives. Components included under the supply management umbrella are purchasing/procurement; strategic sourcing; logistics; quality; inventory control; materials management; warehousing; transportation/traffic/shipping; disposition/investment recovery; distribution; receiving; packaging; product/service development and manufacturing supervision.
