DaVinci control: Honeywell to automate quality for Karlsborg paper plant

Honeywell will provide Billerud, a leading Swedish manufacturer of packaging paper, with a DaVinci Quality Control System (QCS) and a range of actuators as part of a project to rebuild the company’s paper machine at its plant in Karlsborg, Sweden.The project will automate quality control and build more consistent and precise measurement capabilities into the paper machine. These improvements are expected to increase production speed and yield. The solution also will improve the quality of the resulting sack and kraft paper used in packaging.
"Honeywell is a long-standing vendor of ours, and because of their familiarity with our business and with our plant, they were the partner of choice," says Lars Göran Ekholm, production manager, Billerud. "Honeywell’s solution enables a significant revamp of our production process. On a micro level, we will be able to accurately measure moisture in places where it was previously impossible. On a macro level, the resulting efficiencies will allow us to boost production without sacrificing quality."
