Better documentation: Adobe offers new technical communication suite

Adobe Systems has introduced an integrated set of applications for creating, managing, and publishing technical information. The company says the solution set—dubbed Adobe Technical Communication Suite—will allow technical communicators to make documents more powerful—and much more effective—by supplementing  traditional text and graphics with rich media, including 3D images and video that can run on the Adobe Flash Player.

The Technical Communication suite is expected to be used by professionals who create documentation—such as user and owner’s manuals—for technical products, as well as those who develop materials for training programs. Many elements of the suite could be used in creating eLearning programs, a form of online training that Adobe strongly supports.  

Naresh Gupta, Adobe senior VP, Print and Classic Publishing, says the new software suite “takes technical communication to the next level” with features such as video and Unicode support, which allows for publishing in multiple languages.

The suite includes RoboHelp 7, an upgrade to Adobe’s help system, which assists communicators in writing and publishing content for help systems and knowledge bases. The new version of RoboHelp contains automated wizards and topic templates that make it easier to incorporate interactive elements such as graphics, sound, and video into a training program.

RoboHelp, paired with FrameMaker 8, allows users to update online help systems without reimporting files for each update.
