Five minutes to four seconds: Blue Coat Appliances slashes Excel file transfers for Terakata Manufacturing

-- Manufacturing Business Technology, 9/4/2007 9:41:00 AM

Tohaku-gun, Japan-based Terakata Manufacturing is using Blue Coat Proxy SG appliances to accelerate the delivery of critical data files across its wide area network, running between its headquarters and manufacturing plants.

Many of the files being delivered are large Microsoft Excel spreadsheets containing business-critical data and are around 6 megabytes in size.

Since installing the Blue Coat appliances, files that once took up to five minutes to access now can be accessed in approximately four seconds. The faster access has resulted in a considerable improvement in employee productivity and the speed of important business processes. Terakata also realizes significant acceleration of CAD files between its offices through its use of ProxySG appliances.

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances use the company's MACH5 framework of acceleration technologies to accelerate all key enterprise applications:

· Web and secure Web applications (SSL);

· File services; and

· Email/Microsoft Exchange and live streaming and on-demand video.

MACH5 acceleration technology is integrate with Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to enable organizations to manage user/application interactions—i.e., stop undesirable applications, regulate less important applications, and accelerate critical applications, even when application traffic is encrypted using SSL.

"We are pleased to provide such a dramatic improvement in WAN performance resulting in greater employee productivity and an acceleration of business processes," says Matt Young, VP, Asia Pacific, Blue Coat Systems. "Blue Coat ProxySG appliances accelerate the full range of critical business applications and result in increased productivity and lower WAN costs for the enterprise or organization."
