In brief

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 5/1/2007

South Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai/Kia Motor Group is deploying an RFID system for tracking part shipments from 200-plus global suppliers to its automotive assembly plants. The first phase of the project will tag boxed and cased parts from five major suppliers serving Hyundai/Kia's manufacturing facility in Alabama.

The initial phase will use 130,000 UPM Raflatac UHF RFID tags. In the final phase, it will deploy more than 20 million UPM Raflatac tags annually. The system is designed to track parts through all major supply chain processing, including delivery to distribution centers, repackaging, and final receipt at assembly plants.
